I turn 35 today. It’s a milestone birthday, and I have mixed feelings about it. For the first time in my life, I feel like I’m getting older. I was sharing my angst about this birthday with a friend earlier this week, and she reminded me of all the reasons that I have to celebrate where I am in life right now, instead of fretting that I’m one step closer to 40. Without a doubt, the thing that I have to be most thankful for is Mason. Motherhood is the greatest thing I’ve ever done, and I feel so fortunate to be a mom–and more specifically, Mason’s mommy–for so many reasons.
Overwhelming love
Little boy hugs and kisses
Hearing “mama” (never gets old!)
Infectious laughter
Gummy (and then toothy) grins
Cuddle time on the couch
Coffee and playtime at 6 a.m.
Swinging in the park
Art time with puppy-shaped markers
Play dates with other cool moms
Shopping for little boy threads
Family date nights
Bathtime with squeaky toys
Road trips
First words
Finger painting
Constant surprises
Tiny toes and fingers
Wispy blonde curls
Bad behavior (that’s just so cute)
Care to share why you’re grateful you’re a mommy?
Hooray! Happy Birthday, Heather!
the times when your child only wants you, making your heart feel more than warm and more than loved!
“bath time with squeaky toys”- shoot i cant say how many times i threw on a bikini and got in the tub and splashed half the water on the floor and made mountains of bubbles
waking up to my sons cute face and infectious smile
being pulled off the couch (literally) with my one finger in his tiny hand the again infectious smile, to play, get a cup, or show me something.
re-living out my child years
imaginative play
playing and forgetting just how old I am
being a super hero- hes the apple of my eye, as I am his.
Family time in bed- My son’s favorite place to be is in my bed it is our nightly ritual to spend some cuddle or play time in bed to settle down before bed time (sounds slightly weird but it helps all three of us get together and relax where we all feel the most comfortable and can bond)
I have a little girl and it’s so much fun to paint her nails (she’s 4) and take her to dance class:) nail painting tip for the little ones: use Nicole by Opi or any colors that do not contain formaldehyde or other toxins.
I am grateful to be a mom because this new role is shaping me in ways that no other role or job could. Being a mother has caused me to face how truly selfish and impatient I can be, while conditioning me to be more selfless, patient and compassionate as I take care of my son. As a mother I am and will continue to learn how love is indeed patient and kind, keeping no record of wrongs – how love is not self-seeking, not easily angered and always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always preserves.
