Eating Dos and Don'ts for Daddy, Getting My Control Freak On (Again)

I’m on the verge of losing it. Tomorrow morning Mason will fly for the first time ever without me. As in, on a plane, to another state, without mommy. Daddy will make all the decisions for 3.5 days by himself. My heart can’t take it.

What if he’s air sick?
What if his ears hurt?
What if he’s bored?
What if he just misses mommy and I’m not there?!

I’m heading to Park City, Utah, for a blogger conference (I’m teaching a class there with Ellen Seidman–wish us luck!), while my boys are traveling south to visit my in-laws. Sniff.

I’ve packed Mason’s bag. I’ve written a list of eating do’s and don’ts for Chris. (Last time I went out of town, the child ate almost nothing but French fries.) Now all I can do is pray.

My list:

3 meals a day + 1 snack
Fresh veggies and fruits

Organic meat and fish
Brown rice bread/pasta
Whole-wheat bread/pasta
Dessert (ONE a day, only ONE. Seriously.)

Hot dogs
Chili dogs (no, the chili doesn’t change things)
Juice/sugary drinks
Sugar substitutes
Pigeon (aka yucky birds)
Runny eggs
Rare meat
Processed cheese
White bread
Communal cereal

(*But only once and only if you must)

French fries

Would sneaking a nanny cam into his luggage be too much? Anyone care to bet on the chances of Chris following my list?

  1. I really hope this is a joke. Get off your gatekeeping high horse. He’s the father. Get out of the way and let him be a father the way he see’s fit.

  2. oh well, I don’t see anything wrong with making a lot of suggestions to your husband. Let’s face it and be honest men do things differently when it comes to kids. My husband is great with playing with our baby but keeping her schedule. Feeding the right food, rememberinf diaper changers. Eh he cld use some help.

  3. HAHAHA, Anne. Luckily we’re both on the same page about alcohol–it’s a definite don’t until he’s much older!!
